EQUALITY OBJECTIVES 2023 – 2027
Furneux Pelham Church of England Primary School will promote equal opportunity and will not tolerate inequality in any area of the school’s life or work. All will be treated equally and given equal access to the curriculum and life of the school. All will have equal opportunity to benefit from all that we offer. Our intention is to develop an ethos in which all will thrive. Diversity and differences will be valued and respected by all and they will contribute to the richness of our school life and learning. A celebration of diversity will open our pupils eyes to the wonder of the wider world and God’s gifts within it.
Our vision and values promote inclusion and equality and tackle discrimination. We have high expectations for all our pupils irrespective of race, creed, gender or disability. We promote the principles and practices of equality and justice throughout the school and we aim to be a school where everyone:
- is respected and respects others;
- takes part in the life of the school;
- achieves to their potential and is of equal value as a learner;
- develops skills essential to life;
- exercises choice;
- celebrates diversity in its wide-ranging forms;
- fosters positive attitudes and relationships and a shared sense of community and belonging;
- observes good practice in recruitment, retention and staff development;
- aims to reduce and challenge barriers to equality that already exist.
Under the Equality Act 2010, we welcome our general duty to
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by The Equality Act 2010
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
We recognise our specific duties which aims to assist us to meet our general duty –
- To annually publish information on how we are complying with the Equality Duty including to publish information on our school population.
- To publish equality objectives every four years, which show how we plan to tackle particular inequalities and reduce or remove them
Our Equality Objectives
Objective 1: To ensure the school actively promotes and prioritises raising awareness, appreciation and celebration of diversity including gender, sexuality, race and religion.
Objective 2: To monitor and analyse pupil achievement by race, gender and disability and act on any trends or patterns in the data that require additional support for pupils.
Objective 3: To mitigate the continued impact of school closures on disadvantaged pupils and focus upon closing the gap in maths achievement between these pupils and non-disadvantaged pupils.
Objective 4: Monitor pupil behaviour by gender, ethnicity, disability and other disadvantaged or vulnerable groups and ensure that support is given where necessary (as perpetrator or victim).
Objective 5: Ensure equality of access to all aspects of our curriculum and school provision.
